Yamba is a
North Coast holiday town at the mouth of the
Clarence River 677 km n-e of Sydney. Original
inhabitants were the Yiegara Aborigines with
early European settlement coming in the form
of cedar cutters and squatters. Today tourism,
sugar cane (Harwood Sugar Mill (1874) is the
industry's oldest mill), fishing, boat building and
retirees constitute the town's thriving economy.
