Tweed Heads is the northernmost town in
NSW 862 km north of Sydney. Together
with Coolangatta on the
Qld border, it forms a twin town and denotes the
beginning of the
Gold Coast famous for its beaches, leisurely
lifestyle & nightlife. In summer it can become
confusing as NSW adopts daylight saving while
Queensland does not. Original inhabitants were the
Bundjalung & Minjungbal Aborigines and Capt
Cook named the nearby
Mount Warning and Point Danger in 1770 when he
was almost shipwrecked here. The early economy relied
on cedar cutting, agriculture, shipping &
sugarcane followed by dairying and bananas. Today
tourism, retirement, commercial fishing &
agriculture are the economy's mainstays. Markets (1st
