Turtle
Turtles are one of the world’s most primitive reptiles dating back over 200 million years. They feature a large shell (carapace), four strong flippers and beak-like jaws for crushing food as they have no teeth. They shed their shell while they grow and most are carnivores feeding on worms, fish and mosquito larvae. Australia is home to 6 of the 7 marine turtle species in the world - Flatback, Green, Leatherback, Loggerhead, Hawksbill, Olive Ridley. Turtles are very adaptable with their environments but prefer warm climates. They enjoy good eyesight and senses of smell, touch and sound.
