The Rocks NSW 2000
The Rocks is Sydney's historic quarter first settled in 1788 located next to Circular Quay. Originally an area of convicts, merchants, sailors and prostitutes, since 1970s the many gracious 19th century houses, warehouses & buildings have been converted into trendy restaurants, cafes and boutique B&Bs. A number of Sydney's oldest hotels are also found here including Lord Nelson (1842), Orient (1844), Observer (1848), Australian (1914), Mercantile (1915) and Fortune of War (1922). The Rocks is also home to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Susannah Place Museum, Sydney's oldest surviving residence - Cadmans Cottage (1816) and the famous Rocks Markets held each Sat/Sun.(10am-5pm). Farmers’ Market, cnr Argyle & George Sts. Fri (10am-3pm) & Sat (9am-3pm).
