Stansbury is a charming Yorke Peninsula community on the Gulf of St Vincent 204 km west of Adelaide. Originally occupied by the Naranga Aborigines, white pastoralists arrived in 1840s and established the settlement originally known as Oyster Bay for its outstanding oyster beds. Renamed Stansbury after a friend of the Governor, the port town grew substanially due to its trade transporting grain to Adelaide. Today Stansbury acts as both a rural service centre and popular tourist destination offering excellent water sports and activities. Markets (Oct-May) monthly.
