Stanley is a quaint NW Tasmanian historic town/fishing port 401 km n-w of Hobart. Named after Lord Stanley, the port was established in 1827 and the town in 1840s. Today heritage-listed Stanley is a popular tourist destination and home of ‘The Nut’, spectacular volcanic rock remains discovered by explorer, Matthew Flinders (1798) who likened it to a lump of Christmas cake! Melbourne to Stanley Yacht Race (Nov).
