South Perth is a pretty inner city residential suburb 5 km from the CBD. This historic suburb dating back to 1830s is an expensive area due to its Swan River location and proximity to the city centre with an interesting mix of high-rise apartments, elegant mansions and townhouses. South Perth covers an area of over 5 sq kms with both the Perth Zoo and Royal Perth Golf Club established here in 1898. The historic windmill (1833) and adjacent miller's cottage can be viewed (10am-4pm) Sun-Fri and (1pm-4pm) Sat. Admission fee. The South Perth foreshores (Sir James Mitchell Park) has walking/cycling tracks, recreational areas and two ferry terminals.
