Shark Bay WA
Shark Bay is a World Heritage site 852 km north of Perth. Spanning a coastline of over 1 500 km, this westernmost part of Australia in the Gascoyne region covers about 23 000 sq km. Shark Bay is renowned for its large dugong population (10 000), dolphins (Monkey Mia) and various mammal, reptile & bird species. It is a major fish & crustacean breeding ground & nursery with over 300 species. Shark Bay additionally boasts the world’s largest seagrass bank and number of species.
