Sand Remo is a pretty fishing village on Anderson Peninsula on the Victorian mainland 126 km south of Melbourne. It also acts as the gateway to Phillip Island which is connected by a bridge to Newhaven. Originally occupied by the Bunurong Aborigines, white settlement began in 1840s with the port used to transport cattle, local produce & coal. San Remo developed as an early tourist destination in 1880s and was named after the famous Italian Riviera resort town. Today tourism & commerical fishing sustain the area. San Remo Challenge (Feb) and San Remo Festival (Mar).
