Salamander Bay is a pretty Port Stephens township 202 km north of Sydney. Located on the Tomaree Peninsula, its name derives from the first European vessel (a convict ship) to enter Port Stephens (1791). Salamander Bay covers over 8 sq km but a little over half is comprised of  beaches (unpatrolled), reserves and scrubland.
