Rushcutters Bay is a Sydney harbourside
eastern suburb 3 km from the
CBD. First known as Rush Cutting Bay because of
all the rushes growing in the swamplands which were
used for thatching houses, a large area (2.5 ha) was
turned into Rushcutters Bay Park in 1878. It is
surrounded by Elizabeth Bay,
Darlinghurst,
Paddington and
Kings Cross.
