Richmond is a pretty Hawkesbury River town 63 km west of Sydney. Named by Governor Phillip to honour the Duke of Richmond, early settlement began in 1794. The Hawkesbury Agricultural College (1891) is today the University of Western Sydney and Ham Common (1916) the site of the Richmond Airforce base. Agriculture is still an important industry but many of its residents make the daily commute into Sydney. Markets 1st Sat each month. Hawkesbury Waratah Festival (Sept), Fruits of the Hawkesbury Festival (Sept-Nov).
