A Quokka is a small rare marsupial macropod and sole member of the Setonix genus. As with kangaroos and wallabies, they are nocturnal and herbivores. Quokkas average 4 kg (weight) and 70 cm (length). They have a compact build, brown grizzly fur and a short thick tail. This protected species is found in WA’s south-western corner particularly Rottnest Island. Quokkas are very social animals who like to feed on grasses, leaves & succulents and like other wallabies, they hop. Their babies are called joeys.
