Queenstown is a SW Tasmania copper and gold mining town 248 km n-w of Hobart. Following gold discoveries in 1880s, the settlement boomed and continuous mining operations have been carried out to the present day. This historic town with modern facilities is surrounded by high mountains of denuded forests, a result of the mining smelter operations over decades.

Queenstown has half a dozen motels, 3 hotels, a couple of B&Bs, holiday apartments/cottages and a caravan park.
