Port Kembla is an industrial Illawarra region seaport 94 km south of Sydney. It is home to an extensive steelworks and its busy port exports vast quantities of coal. Bustling Wollongong, of which it is a suburb, is just 10 km north and it is serviced by two railway stations. Port Kembla covers an area of about 16 sq km and has a number of small beaches and pretty headlands overlooking Five Islands Nature Reserve. Hill 60, its highest point and a former aboriginal settlement became a military lookout point during WWII with 2 Mushroom Tunnels constructed to assist in defence operations.  Harbourfest (Nov).
