Phillip Island sits 124 km south of Melbourne and was named after Governor Phillip. It is connected to the mainland by a 640 m bridge between San Remo and Newhaven and covers an area of about 10,000 ha (26 km long x 9 km at its widest) with 97 km of coastline. Nearby Nobbies is a rugged nature reserve with cliff side walks and Seal Rocks is home to the country' largest Australian fur seal colony.
