The Olgas /Kata Tjuta
- NT
The Olgas or Kata Tjuta are situated in the
Red Centre 46 km from Uluru/Ayers
Rock. The Olgas were named by early explorer,
Ernest Giles and cover some 3 500 ha with majestic Mt
Olga rising to 546 m. It is believed that they
were once much larger than Ayers Rock but were
reduced to these numerous smaller monoliths due to
millions of years of erosion. Kata Tjuta, meaning
'many heads' are noted for their 36 rock piles and
engravings.
