Perch
Ocean Perch belongs to the Helicolenus genus with a number of different species such as Reef Ocean Perch, Bigeye Ocean Perch. Found generally in southern Australian waters, ocean perch experience a slow growth rate but may live over 30 years. Their diet consists of prawns, squid, cardinal fish and their appearance is distinguished by a long dorsal fin, orange-red coloured bands and large mouth and eyes. Measuring between 30-40 cm in length, they have a medium flesh texture and mild flavour. Ocean perch are commercially very important and have also been known as Sea Perch, Coral Perch, Red Perch.
