Oberon is a pretty farming settlement near the Blue Mts 170 km west of Sydney. Sitting at an elevation of 1 113 m, the town experiences a cool climate with occasional snowfalls. The Wiradjuri Aborigines originally inhabited the area with white settlement beginning with the discovery of gold in 1820s. The town’s name derives from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to replace the original name, ‘Glyndwr’. The local economy relies on pastoral, agricultural & timber industries.
