Nuriootpa is the Barossa Valley's main commercial centre 72 km n-e of Adelaide. Named after the Aboriginal word meaning 'meeting place', Nuriootpa began its life as a slab hut hotel in 1843 and grew from there. The Para River runs through this picturesque historic town surrounded by vineyards. Barossa Vintage Festival (odd numbered years Apr), Barossa Jazz Weekend (Aug), Barossa International Music Festival (Oct).
