Islands
The Northern Territory is home to 887 islands. They follow the almost 5 500 km coast from west (tiny Quoin Island) to east (Vanderlin Island). The largest group is the Tiwi Islands (comprising Bathurst and Melville). Another substantial island is Groote Eylandt which is part of Arnhem Land. It is Aboriginal land and not open to the public. Other island groups include the Sir Edward Pellew, Goulburn, Wessel and The English Companys. Only very few are inhabited.
