Nimbin is a northern
NSW village known as the 'Rainbow Region' 777 km
n-e of Sydney. The
Bundjalung Aboriginals
believed it was the resting place of the Rainbow
Serpent, Warrajum, and a place of great healing. The
Aquarius Festival (1973) changed Nimbin from a quiet
dairy town into an alternative lifestyle & hippie
community attracting many writers, artists musicians
& environmentalists. Nimbin's economy is based on
tourism, property sales, 'green' industries and 'New
Age' businesses. Aquarius Markets 3rd Sunday each
month. Mardi Grass Festival (May).
