The Bundjalung Aboriginals believed it was the resting place of the Rainbow Serpent, Warrajum, and a place of great healing. The Aquarius Festival (1973) changed Nimbin from a quiet dairy town into an alternative lifestyle & hippie community attracting many writers, artists musicians & environmentalists. Nimbin's economy is based on tourism, property sales, 'green' industries and 'New Age' businesses. Aquarius Markets 3rd Sunday each month. Mardi Grass Festival (May).
