Narrendera is a lovely Riverina rural
service centre 555 km s-w of Sydney. Sitting on
the Murrumbidgee River, the town has been declared an
urban National Trust conservation area. ‘Narrungdera’
a clan of the original inhabitants, the Wiradjuri

account for the town’s name. Pastoral settlement
began in 1830s but several severe droughts held
expansion back. The development of the Murrumbidge
