Nambucca Heads is a popular Coffs Coast holiday destination. It sits at the mouth of the Nambucca River and is 512 km north of Sydney. Original inhabitants were the Dainggatti & Gumbaynggir Aborigines who named the area meaning 'entrance to the waters'. White settlement began in 1867 and the railway arrived in 1923 resulting in the emergence of holiday makers. The breakwater was built in 1895 due to ongoing sandbar problems and the Vee Wall was added in 1930.
