Mount Barker is a delightful
Albany region township within a major wine
growing area. Located 367 km s-e of Perth, it is also the
gateway to the scenic Porongurups (east) and Stirling
Range (north). First settled in 1830s, mixed farming
& orchards dominated agriculturally with grape
growing gradually replacing the orchards. Mount
Barker Wine Festival (Jan), Machinery Field Day
(Mar), Mount Barker Wildflower Festival (Sept/Oct),
Goundrey's Celtic Festival (Nov).
