The Mornington Peninsula is located alluringly close to Victoria's capital, Melbourne (95 km south). This pretty stretch of historic seaside villages, cool-climate vineyards and boutique food producers has long been a favourite with Melburnians and more recently, with interstate and international travelers. The Peninsula has access to three seafronts, sheltered Port Phillip Bay, wild Bass Strait & unpopulated Western Port. The scenic Mornington Peninsula NP extends along the s-w coast and features a 32 km walking track taking in an historic (1858) lighthouse. Many sports including golf, fishing & walking are popular with the main towns/villages being Mornington, Rosebud, Sorrento and Portsea. Arthurs Seat summit at 300m offers superb surrounding vistas.
