Margaret River is a chic
SW WA tourist town on the river of the same name.
Located 275 km s of Perth, it is known for
it excellent wineries, beautiful coastal scenery and
beaches and incredible cave formations. European
settlement began about 1850s with timber cutting an
important industry from 1870s. The town was probably
named after early settler, Margaret Wyche and really
only began to develop in 1920s with the Group
Settlement Scheme which attracted migrants from
Europe. Town Square markets every Sun (summer) and
every 2nd Sun (rest of year). Margaret River Masters
(surfing) (Mar/Apr) and Margaret River Wine Region
Festival (Nov).
