Loxton is a pretty Murray River service centre 251 km n-e of Adelaide. The town was named after an early settler, William Charles Loxton and a number of German immigrants began arriving around 1895. There followed many WWII servicemen enticed by the War Service Land Settlement Scheme who started growing grapes, citrus & dried fruits. Today this modern town is known as 'Garden City of the Riverland'. Mardi Gras (Feb), Loxton Gift (footrace) (Feb), Riverland Field Days (Sept).
