Lobethal is an historic German village in the Adelaide Hills 31 km east of Adelaide. German settlers, persecuted in their native Prussia, began arriving in 1830s and with their hard work and planting of vines & crops, the township prospered. Today Lobethal is the centre of fruit & vegetable growing, dairy & beef farms and wineries.
Tourist Attractions & Info:
Lutheran Church Complex: includes oldest original Lutheran church, Australia's first Lutheran Seminary (1842), Lobethal Archives & Historical Museum and several historic graves.
Lobethal Woollen Mill: converted into an interesting costume museum with a collection dating from 1812.
Accommodation:
Lobethal has several hotel/motels, a B&B and holiday cottages.
