Lilly Pilly

Lilly Pillies are popular evergreen rainforest trees with shiny green leaves. New growth comes through as bright pink to red and the plants are known for their tough, drought-resistant and fast-growing qualities. Of Australia’s 60 species, all are thought to be edible producing a reddish/purple fruit that has a high pectin content ideal for preserving. Lilly pillies have small white scented flowers which bloom in summer and the trees make excellent ornamental garden features and windbreaks. Pimple gall and scale are two problems that affect the health of these otherwise resilient plants.
