Lake Macquarie NSW
Lake Macquarie sits parallel with the Pacific Ocean between Newcastle (north) and the Central Coast (south). As Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake, it encompasses 100 sq km (twice the size of Sydney Harbour). The Lake was inadvertently discovered in 1800 and named to honour Governor Macquarie. It joins the ocean at Swansea and is home to several islands, notably Pulbah Island. Its countless shoreline settlements include Warners Bay, Toronto, Belmont, Swansea, Valentine. Lake Macquarie is a highly popular watersports recreational playground.
