Kangaroo Paws (ANIGOZANTHOS) are among Australia's most attractive & unique flowers. They originate in Western Australia and are considered difficult to cultivate in eastern gardens. Kangaroo Paws are not long-lived even in their natural state, but are constantly re­producing from seed. Under the best of conditions, plants continue by the survival of only one or two of the iris-like rhizomes, and eventually succumb. The red and green kangaroo paw is the most popular with smooth tubes of richest green and stalks of equally rich velvet red. The large flowers of the Swamp Kangaroo Paw are pure green while the lovely Cats Paw has velvety flowers of orange or yellow and is lower growing. The rare Black Kangaroo Paw has yellow tubes from a black base and black branching stems.
