Julia Creek is an Outback service centre 1 625 km n-w of Brisbane. Sitting on the Flinders Hwy, it is located between Townsville & Mt Isa and is known as the 'Gateway to the Gulf'. It also proudly boasts of being North West Qld's first European settlement. An early pioneer named the settlement after his aunt and niece in 1860s. Today main industries are beef and wool production. Dirt & Dust Triathalon (Apr/May), Campdraft (May).
