Jerilderie is a pleasant Riverina rural township 659 km s-w of Sydney. The Jeithi Aborigines named the area ‘Djirrildhuray’ meaning ‘reedy place’ and squatter settlement followed in 1840s. Jerilderie’s great claim to fame is as the place Ned Kelly and his gang held hostage in 1879. Major industries are wool, rice, wheat and vegetables together with the state’s largest merino stud.
