The Illawarra region is the first of 4 sections of
the
South Coast extending towards the Victorian
border. Starting from just south of Sydney’s Royal
National Park, it extends to
Gerroa a distance of about 100 km. This hilly
coastal plain comprises a stunning mountainous
escarpment with shallow
Lake Illawarra at its centre. The region’s main
centres include Helensburgh, Thirroul, bustling
Wollongong,
Port Kembla,
Dapto, Shellharbour,
Kiama and
Gerringong.
