Horse Racing is Australia’s 3rd most popular spectator sport and is administered by the Australian Racing Board. Australia is home to about 370 racecourses with almost 3 000 annual race meetings - the most prestigious being Melbourne Cup held each November at Flemington, Victoria. The Horse Racing industry provides jobs for nearly a quarter of a million people, is an important part of Australia’s culture and has provided a number of racing icons such as Phar Lap, Makybe Diva.
