Holbrook is a Riverina rural
service centre 492 km s-w of Sydney. European
settlement began in 1820s and because so many were
German, the community became known as Germanton. Anti
German sentiment during WWI saw this changed to
honour a British submarine commander, Norman
Holbrook. The district’s main industries include
wool, lucerne, wheat, sheep & a timber mill. Beef
Fest (May), Agricultural Show (Nov).
