Hawks Nest is a tranquil holiday
town 222 km north of Sydney. Boasting
both ocean and river frontage, it is joined over the
Myall River to its sister town,
Tea Gardens, by the 'Singing Bridge' which sounds
like a wind harp during certain wind conditions.
Original inhabitants were the Worimi Aborigines with
timbergetters arriving in early 19th century. The
town is named after a large tree favoured by hawks
nesting there. Sandmining and tourism has mostly
replaced fishing and timber as the economy's
mainstays. The Myall Prawn Festival (Mar).
