Great Australian
Bight WA/SA
(Pic: by Nachoman-au
The Great Australian Bight is a large open bay
resembling a very large ‘bite’ out of the coastline!
Generally considered to be located between Cape
Pasley (WA) and Cape
Carnot (SA),
it covers a distance of almost 1 200 km adjoining the
Southern (Indian) Ocean and south of the vast
Nullabor
Plain. Characterised by the world’s longest line
of seacliffs, rock platforms and surfing beaches, the
waters are rich in
Southern Right Whales, Australian Sea Lions,
Great White Sharks, Southern Bluefin Tuna. The
small settlements of Eucla and Ceduna allow access to
the Bite which is protected by the Great Australian
Bight Marine Park (GABMP).
