Goanna
Goannas are monitor lizards with over 30 species found throughout Australia except Tasmania. Coming in different sizes (from the tiny Pygmy to huge Perentie goanna) and colours, they lay eggs and are carnivorous feeding on insects, reptiles, birds, small mammals. They also feed on carrion including livestock and larger animals. Goannas have sharp teeth and claws and have traditionally played an important role in Aboriginal mythology and history.
