Historic Fremantle includes: The Round House (1831), Fremantle Gaol (1851), Warders Quarters (1851),
St John's Anglican Church (1881), Fremantle Town Hall (1887), Esplanade Hotel (1890s).
Western Australian Maritime Museum, Cliff St: magnificent waterfront museum featuring 6 galleries each depicting a different theme of WA's nautical history. Highlights include 'Australia II' (winner of the America's Cup) and the reconstructed 17th century 'Batavia'. Open daily. Admission fee.
Fremantle Museum & Art Gallery, cnr Finnerty & Ord Sts: The building (1861) itself has an interesting heritage having operated as the colony's first lunatic asylum, training hospital, women's home and WWII US navy personnel base. Today it offers a fascinating look at Fremantle's past with historic artefacts & memorabilia as well as contemporary art exhibitions. Open daily. Free admission.
Fremantle Prison Museum, The Terrace: Convict built of local limestone, it was in use from 1855-1991. Open daily. Admission fee.
Fremantle Motor Museum, Victoria Quay: outstanding vehicular collection. Open daily. Admission fee.
Samson House Museum, cnr Ellen & Ord Sts: (1900) features a magnificently restored and maintained home with excellent period furniture displays, historic bric-a-brac and beautiful gardens. Open (1pm-5pm) Thurs/Sun.
Heritage Trails: include Manjaree, Convict, Old Foreshore, East Fremantle Heritage & Rocky Bay Heritage.
