Falls Creek is Victoria's most exclusive ski resort. Located 388 km n-e of Melbourne in High Country at 1 580 m, development began in 1940s and it was named after some nearby waterfalls. The skiing infrastructure is excellent and there is a good selection of accommodation. The ski season officially begins in June, however Falls Creek is popular the year round for mountain biking, sailing, abseiling, horse riding, canoeing & camping. There are a number of excellent walks in the area including the Australian Alps Walking Track (655 km) and the shorter Mt Nelse (9 km return), Wallace/Cope Hut (6 km return circuit), Ruined Castle (6 km return) Fitzgerald & Kelly Huts (11 km return) to name a few. Food, Wine & Wildflowers Weekend (Jan), Classic Music Weekend (Mar).
