Echidna - Spiny
Anteater
Echidnas are also known as Spiny Anteaters although not related to the anteater species. Echidnas, together with platypus, are the only survivors of the Tachyglossidae family and only egg-laying mammals known as monotremes. These small solitary mammals have hair and spines, resembling a porcupine, and if attacked, will burrow into the ground or roll into a spiky ball. Their snouts find the food and their long sticky tongues collect it - mainly ants & termites. A baby echidna is called a puggle.
