Coutts Crossing is an historic village in the Far North Coast hinterland. Located 613 km north of Sydney, it sits  on the Orara River and Armidale Rd just south of Grafton. Originally inhabited by the Gumbaingirr Aborigines, early settlers began arriving in 1840s including Kangaroo Station owner, Thomas Coutts, who lent his name to the fledgling settlement. Pastoral, timber and mining (gold & coal) industries sustained the area with its history preserved in the Heritage Cottage museum – open (10am-midday) Wed and (2pm-4pm) Sun. McPhersons Crossing (3 km east) is a popular water sports area. Rural Expo (Oct).
