Coogee is an outer Perth
suburb 26 km s-w of the CBD. Covering an area of 3 sq
km, it was named after a lake the Nyoongar Aborigines
called Kou-gee, today Lake Coogee. Early European
settlers began arriving in 1870s with the current
residential development stemming from 1980s. This
attractive beachside area overlooks Cockburn Sound
and various islands (Garden, Carnac, Rottnest)
providing excellent water-based activities.
Additionally, Coogee is close to Cables Ski Park,
Spearwood (4 km n-e), historic, vibrant Fremantle (8
km north), water slides, Bibra Lake (11 km n-w) and
Jandakot Airport (11 km east).
