Byron Bay sits on the NSW
Far North Coast 776 km north of Sydney. It was named
after John Byron, a navigator and grandfather of
poet, Lord Byron, by Cpt. Cook on May 15, 1770. The
former whaling station now boasts fame as an
environmentally and socially aware local community
catering to an interesting mix of residents and
visitors. The alternatively minded, budget
backpackers, families and well-heeled all feel
equally at home in this picturesque coastal town with
its magnificent surfing beaches and hinterland.
