Bordertown is an important Limestone Coast
region rural service town 272 km s-e of Adelaide.
Interestingly, it is not actually on the SA-Victoria
border, but 18 km away. It is also the birthplace of
former Australian Prime Minister, Bob Hawke. Early
grazier settlement began in 1840s when the area was
known as Tatiara thought to be Aboriginal for
'good country'. An apt description for the rich
surrounding wheat and wool country also producing
vineyards, cereal and seeds.
