Blackheath (1 065 m) is the highest town in the Blue Mountains 120 km west of Sydney. Original inhabitants were the Gundungura Aboriginals and the area was named by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1815 for the colour of the native shrubbery. European settlement (1831) was boosted by the railway (1869). Today the town is famous for its magnificent views, bushwalks, upmarket guesthouses & beautiful rhododendron displays. Blackheath markets 3rd Sun each month.
