Birdwood is a quaint Adelaide Hills village 43 km east of Adelaide. Established in 1840s by German immigrants fleeing religious persecution back home, the town soon prospered growing grain and milling flour. Originally named Blumberg, anti German WWI feelings, saw the settlement renamed in honour of a Gallipoli army commander, Sir William Birdwood. Bay to Birdwood Run (vintage cars) (Sept), Rock and Roll Rendezvous (Nov).
Tourist Attractions & Info:
Historic Birdwood: includes Birdwood Mill (1852) today housing the National Motor Museum with over 300 vintage vehicles, Blumberg Inn (1865), Birdwood Primary School.
Accommodation:
Birdwood has a couple of hotels, 3 B&Bs and holiday cottages.
