Arkaroola is a remote northern Flinders Ranges settlement and resort 687 km north of Adelaide. Surrounded by stunning gorges, waterholes and ranges, Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary (61 000 ha) was established in 1968 as a refuge for endangered wildlife species and today is also home to an observatory, weather station & seismograph station as about 200 small earthquakes are measured here each year. There are also 100 km of 4WD tracks (self-guided) notably the Echo Camp Backtrack. The settlement has good visitor facilities (camping, accommodation, store, fuel).
